Digital Thermometers Provided in Exchange for Mercury Thermometers at Upcoming MDI Household Hazardous Waste Collection
The Acadia Disposal District (ADD) and Hancock County Planning Commission (HCPC) are teaming up to organize the third annual Mount Desert Island regional household hazardous waste collection scheduled for Saturday, October 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the MDI Regional High School. Universal waste, which commonly contains mercury or other heavy metals, also will be collected. This year, free digital thermometers will be provided to the first 50 households that drop off mercury-containing thermometers for safe disposal. Households must be from one of the sponsoring communities to participate and pre-registration is required.
Please note that volunteers are needed on collection day to help with directing traffic, handing out materials and greeting participants. For more information, please contact your town office or Sherry Churchill, HCPC Planner, at 667-7131 or schurchill@hcpcme.org.
