March 23 Universal Waste Forum with DEP Scheduled

Electronic and mercury-containing items, also known as universal waste (UW), can no longer be disposed of with regular household garbage.  Faced with additional waste disposal costs and storage requirements for this type of material, municipal officials might be wondering what alternative disposal options exist for their residents.  The Hancock County Planning Commission has scheduled a public meeting on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Ellsworth City Hall upstairs conference room from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. to explore safe UW disposal options and potential regional opportunities to manage such materials.  Ann Pistell from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection will be available to answer questions regarding UW regulations as well as storage and transportation requirements.

Space is limited; pre-registration is not required but is strongly encouraged.  For more information please contact Sherry Churchill at 667-7131 or schurchill@hcpcme.org.
