Schoodic Area League of Towns (SALT) is a voluntary intermunicipal partnership between towns in the Schoodic Area. Member municipalities voluntarily collaborate in seeking out solutions to achieve shared goals or common problems, improve efficiency in meeting community and regional needs, and present as a stronger shared voice in interactions with regional, state, and more wide-reaching entities.

The purpose of SALT is for members to collaboratively identify opportunities for Schoodic municipalities to work together, facilitate exploration of those opportunities, and share them with municipal governments to be agreed upon outside of the context of SALT. Municipal governments are tasked with providing services, programs, and more to communities with ever increasing and evolving needs often with small budgets and little municipal capacity. Exploring opportunities to lighten the burdens of individual towns through regional collaboration leads to more resilient, sustainable communities.

Membership in SALT is open to any municipality in the Schoodic Area of Hancock County. These municipalities, henceforth referred to as “towns,” may join SALT at any time at their own discretion. Nonprofit organizations, state and federal entities, and others are invited to attend meetings to share their insights and resources when applicable.
